An anaglyph or 3-D image is a double picture, with each of the two images taken from a slightly different perspective and superimposed on each other. Looking at the anaglyph though 3-D glasses, which have different colored filters for each eye, gives a three-dimensional effect.

Your ability to see depth is based on the fact that each eye sees an object or scene from a different perspective or position. When you use 3-D glasses, your eyes combine these different views into a stereoscopic image, fooling the brain into thinking it is seeing two different views.

The Rubicon Trail guide contains eleven 3-D pictures and the San Bernardino Mountains guide contains ten. 3-D glasses are shipped with the guides and may be purchased separately for downloaded guides and maps.
