Chief Teie retired from the California Department of Forestry and
Fire Protection (CDF) after a successful 34-year career. He worked
up through the ranks from seasonal firefighter to Deputy Director
for Fire Protection. In this position, he was responsible for all
of the fire protection programs within CDF. Chief Teie was very active
in the California Fire Service, serving on several statewide boards
and committees, and was President of the California Fire Chiefs Association
in 1986.
  In
2001, Chief Teie was asked to develop a South African
Edition of the Fire Officers Handbook on Wildland Firefighting. Since
then, he has twice traveled to this very beautiful country; the last
month-long trip was in September of 2002. The result is a 600-page
text titled, Fire
Managers Handbook on Veld and Forest Fires, Strategies, Tactics and
Training. This handbook will be printed in South Africa by the South
African Institute of Forestry in the fall of 2003.
While on his last trip, Chief Teie and his wife Linda played tourist
and visited the Kruger National Park. Here are a few pictures he took
